College = Bitter, or Why I Dropped Out (2013)

I’m tired of a system that values my funds more than my intelligence
I’m tired of a system that teaches to groups rather than individuals
I’m tired of a system that pushes young people into career paths that are five years out of date
I’m tired of a system that demands you be frugal and intelligent with your spending
–While frivolously spending theirs in a business strategy best described as “burning”
I’m tired of a system that charges $200 for a text,
–And pays $5 back when you’re done.
I’m tired of a system that demands all of my time and effort
–But still hinges on the judgment of someone who may not like me all that much,
—-Who doesn’t care.
I’m tired.
I’m tired of a system that doesn’t understand that I don’t come to class,
–Because I’ve got shit crawling out of the walls telling me how god-damn worthless I am
I’m tired of a fucking system that cares more for profits than student success
I’m tired of a system where I pay thousands upon thousands of dollars,
–And come out poorer than I began
I’m tired of a system that teaches you to reword other people’s ideas
I’m tired of a system where those that care become jaded,
–And those that don’t seem to be invulnerable to rebuke.
I’m tired of a system that doesn’t understand that watering the damn grass when it’s raining
–Is a stupid fucking idea.
I’m tired.
I’m god damn tired,
And you’re doing everything you can to cripple my future,
And you’re wrapping it all in a pleasant, perky, and polite southern drawl.

If I think I can make it,
I’m going to become a hobo philosopher,
And I ain’t payin’ you a cent,
I mostly taught myself anyhow.
