“Let’s not talk about this, okay?” (2013)

We don’t talk about the jit—
ters
of those three days you disappeared
How you were embarrassed to admit to me.

We don’t talk about beer pong,
Drunk beyond recognition,
Beerthick bellies, when truths burst forth.

We don’t talk about the pictures of you,
Before-before-and-after
When you used to think I was sweet.

We don’t talk about the things we lost,
The things we’ve done,
We don’t talk about the number of times we almost-not-quite-kissed,

We screw up our pride,
smile, go on,

It’s always, always, that going-on of things,
That brings us back to the verge,
Holding fingers clasped around an explosion like that;
It get’s away from you sometimes.
