A poet with no poems is still a poet, but they are an unread, unheard, poet, which to a poet is worse than not existing at all.
At its most simple, poetry is the act of someone trying to tell someone else something. Its most apt metaphor is someone trying to communicate with you in a language you don’t understand with wild hand movements, guttural sounds, and words that have no definition but mean volumes.
What I’m saying then, is if you’re going to be a poet, then be a poet who writes, rather than one pondering at their own uselessness, it’s as simple as saying something. If anyone else, anyone, can understand it, it’s good.
