Untitled #336 (2013)

Spoken word: From my years in The Boy Scouts of America #1:
“On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.” – “Scout Oath” The Boy Scout Handbook, 11th Edition, Third Printing

Sometimes,
Being an imposter is less of a—
choose-to,
And more of a—
just-sorta-happened,

What with all those capital “God”s,
Exploding from the backs of tongues,
Proud Strong badges of faith,
And all I can muster is a cut-too-short:
“gah” and think, well, that’s “odd”

Sometimes,
You’re the quiet one in the back,
Swearing-to-god,
You’re
Swearing-to-God.
Because it’s what everyone does.
