Love ain’t the realm of absolutes,
it ain’t a “forever ‘n ever”,
so much as it’s a “as long as we work at it”.
The key ain’t wrapped up in your sex life,
It ain’t in the letters you write,
It ain’t under dinner plates,
It ain’t hidin’ in missed dates,
Your love ended because someone, somewhere, gave up on it,
‘n they may well have had good reason,
‘n they may have just been selfish.
You’ve got free will,
–unless you’re feelin’ mighty Calvinist,
You can make things work with anyone,
‘n the cold hard facts is,
it all comes done to what you wanna give ‘n get.
It takes at least two to tango–
I know, I know it’s hard to hear,
had to come to these same realizations myself,
but there ain’t no one completely innocent,
you may not be deliberately shovin’ nettles under skin,
but that don’t mean you didn’t put ’em there,
‘n it don’t mean they didn’t shove in those under yours.
it ain’t ever one thing or another,
one bad thread don’t ruin a tapestry.
It’s always been best to just learn what you can,
You’ll know if you get a second chance,
You’ll know if you want it.
But it ain’t worth obsessin’ over.
I promise you ain’t but skimmed the seas of you yet,
You’ve got life in you like ain’t never been seen.
