A Guide to Conversation: Ed. 3 Revised. (2015)

This is a guide to conversation,
third edition,
revised.

To engage in conversation:
open mouth as if to yawn,
let the deluge flow forth.
Be sure to modulate the flow,
it is bad form to drown others.

Should you drown others:
Run,
they are coming,
they are very good at finding,
they are very good at climbing too.
Trees are not safe.
Do not climb trees.
The trees wonder silently what they have done to deserve this.
They have done nothing.
This is why they deserve this.

You have been caught by them:
Do not speak,
do not think,
they will ask you questions,
these questions will seem innocent.
They are innocent.
Do not murder the questions.
They have done nothing.
It’s bad form to murder the questions.

You have successfully ended the conversation:
It’s left an unsatisfactory taste in your mouth,
so much is left unsaid.
Which is probably for the best.
But still,
But still.
You probably could have mentioned their hair.
It did look nice today.
