Untitled #551 (2014)

Before prom we played it risky in the park.
I was too caught up in not staining the crotch of my rented tux,
and we were out of condoms,
but why let that stop you when there are vitamin water bottles around.
Let it slide, let is slide just a little close, just, the just before,
a little leak before the old slip.
First time was her idea.
In the rain, windows already fogged just from our lips.
She wanted, but we didn’t have,
so she suggested, and we did.
                                    we did
                                        we did.
We went to the prom where we were both bored of dancing,
and I couldn’t have worn a dress if I wanted.
                                        I asked.
We talked to some friends of hers I didn’t know,
        didn’t care to.
Soon enough, she wanted, and I wanted, and we split.
Hiked it to an unfinished housing development near my house.
Pulled off a road that didn’t go anywhere yet,
and 69ed, just to be safe, her white ruffles tickling my nose.

Those houses are built now, drove past them smoking with a friend before her wedding.

You don’t go home.
You take it with you, or you don’t have it.

This side of the Mississippi, easy to see that it just keeps flowin’,
even without me. Wish it didn’t, but there you go.
